Anthony Davis has apparently re-aggravated his right Achilles. It looked like a tendinosis tweak, which caused some swelling . This was reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The Lakers All-Star had to leave last night’s game against the Denver Nuggets. Early in the 2nd quarter after a drive to the basket against Nikola Jokic left him limping. The power forward drained his two free throws. After that he left the court, looking very distraught.
The apparent injury is a cause for concern among Laker fans. This is the second time this month that Davis will have to miss games due to an ankle injury. The team has reported that he is due to undergo an MRI in Minneapolis. The plan was to fly home to Los Angeles today.
Post-game commentary about Anthony Davis
After the game, Davis spoke to the media and looked optimistic about the injury. He shared that this was the first day that he felt “completely fine” with his Achilles and thought that he was making progress. He continued by saying that the LA medical staff told him that everything looked to be okay. They insisted it’s better to get an MRI, just to be certain and to know what steps to take next.
AD’s early exit led to a loss for the Lakers. This ended their seven-game win streak.
However, during the post-match press conference, LeBron seemed to be only interested in the condition of his teammate. He shared his thoughts on the incident: “Just overall safety and his health (Anthony Davis). That’s my only concern … want him to get back to himself.”
Head Coach Frank Vogel added that Davis was in good spirits at halftime and that the injury is probably merely a tweak. He expressed confidence that the Lakers will stay on track, even if one of their key players misses a few games.
