Anthony Davis went out with an injury last week. Since then, his LA Lakers have struggled to win any games. The team from Los Angeles has now lost four of their five games and yesterday they were blown out by an incredible Utah Jazz team. For many analysts, this drop in form is a signal that LeBron James is unable to carry the team without a second superstar. A few commentators on Twitter are now saying that “King James” should now be removed from MVP contention.
In the loss against the Jazz, LeBron was the best player on the floor for LAL, however, that wasn’t enough.
The number one seed in the West defeated LeBron’s team 114 – 89. For the Jazz, this is their second win in a row and the team from Utah have now 22 out of their last 24 matches. During this streak, they have managed to win 20 games by double digits and defeat title contenders such as the Lakers, Clippers, Celtics, Sixers, Bucks, and Heat. Additionally, they’ve performed incredibly well at home and haven’t lost there since December.
It is fitting that the number one team in the West will have two all-stars this year – center Rudy Gobert and guard Donovan Mitchell.
Celtics are out of the playoffs
It is not a good time to be a Celtics fan. The team from Boston has now lost 7 of their last 10 games and is out of the playoffs for now. Their record for the whole season is now 15-17. This makes them the first organization ever to have multiple All-Stars and still fall below the .500 mark.
Last night, Boston lost to Atlanta by double digits, 112 – 127. During the course of the game, the Hawks went on a 20-0 run and Danilo Gallinari finished the night with 38 points. Trae Young was also a star of the show with 33 points,4 rebounds, and 7 assists.
Many Celtics fans are calling for head coach Brad Stevens to be fired. So far, no news has come out from the organization regarding any changes to the squad.
LaMelo shines against the Suns, Booker is named All-Star
The Phoenix Suns lost last night’s game against the Charlotte Hornets. The team owned by Jordan managed to secure a W against the 4th seed in the West after good performances from LaMelo Ball and Malik Monk.
The rookie from the Ball family finished the night with 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 8 assists and his teammate contributed with another 29 for the victory.
Even though the Suns lost, it wasn’t all bad for the Phoenix fans. Devin Booker will play in the All-Star game, as he is chosen to replace the injured Anthony Davis in the West line-up. This news happens a day after the comments from LeBron James that the guard was snubbed.
For Booker, this will be a second trip to the All-Star game.
Unanimous MVP 2x?
The Warriors defeated the Indiana Pacers, 111 to 107. The team from the Bay Area is now in playoff contention and is the 8th seed in the West.
During this whole season, the star of the team – Stephen Curry has reminded everyone why he was the first-ever unanimous MVP. He is currently averaging 30.2 points and 6.2 assists while shooting 48% from the floor and 43% from three.
