After 27 years of marriage, Bill and Melinda Gates decided to put an end to their love story. They posted this news on their verified Twitter accounts and shook us all.
“We no longer believe that we can grow together as a couple in the next phase of our lives.”
In the past 27 years, they have raised three children and together opened a foundation that operates around the world. Although they will no longer be married, they will continue to work together, spread awareness and nurture a common faith in the foundation and its mission.
How did it all start?
Bill and Melinda met at Microsoft. As the only woman in the class of MBA graduates, she began working as a product manager. They met in 1987, shortly after she joined the company.
As Melinda states, she showed up late and all the tables were occupied. Only one table was free, and there were only two chairs. She sat down for one, and soon after, Bill sat on the other chair. Destiny or not?
They married in 1994 in Hawaii, where they ordered local helicopters to prevent unwanted guests from showing up.
Gates foundation
The couple founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000. Their foundation is based on preserving public health, climate change, and improving education.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Gates Foundation gave its maximum in preventing the spread of pandemics. They worked to ensure that treatment and vaccines were provided to all and that this help was spread around the world.
Melinda Gates filed for divorce Monday in King County, Washington. She asked the judge to dissolve the marriage based on their divorce agreement.
Being married for 27 years is certainly a great success. They grew and developed as a couple and as individual personalities, but at the crossroads of life, everyone chooses their path.
