Sarah Paulson spoke in Jimmy Kimmel Live about the moment Matthew Perry turned her down for a kiss at a party at a “makeout party” thrown by Carrie Fisher. She opened up to Jimmy about this awkward experience she had with Perry, though she now laughs when she remembers it. What a pity, right?
They were both at a party hosted by Carrie Fisher I attended by many other famous stars, such as Queen Latifah and Shirley MacLaine.
“There was a hat with names in it, and you were supposed to make out with whomever’s name you pulled out of the hat,” she said. “Matthew Perry pulled my name out of the hat and then promptly left the room.” How would you feel if a situation like this happened to you?
The “American Horror Story” star explained that she knew the “Friends” star pulled her name out of the hat because he told her to. Maybe he was afraid if he hadn’t even told her, it would have been less uncomfortable.
“I saw him and he was like, ‘I got you,’ and I was like, ‘Uh, well, let’s kiss,’ and he was like, ‘No,'” she recalls through laughter. Although she pretended to be offended as she told the story, she didn’t really mind.
Yet Paulson Got Her Kiss
“We knew each other a little bit through one of my very best friends in the world,” she explained. “It was awkward… but then we ended up playing romantic partners years later on a show called Studio 60.” In that show, Paulson played the role of Harriet Hayes while Perry starred as writer-turned-producer Matt Albie. That joint work of theirs made Matthew make amends for this embarrassing refusal.
“I got my kiss,” Paulson teased triumphantly. “I got several kisses, and boy, did he regret not taking me up on it back at Gore Vidal’s makeout party.”
