The BET Awards 2021 took place on Sunday, June 27, live, which really after a long time seemed like a return to normal life.
“As we return LIVE with culture’s biggest night, this year’s show marks many firsts-including the highest number of performers in 21 years of BET Awards; and viewers can expect several surprise moments,” Connie Orlando, EVP of Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy said in a press release. “Some of today’s hottest talent will join us for our return to LA for an unforgettable night celebrating Black excellence.”
Actress Taraji P. Henson was hosting the ceremony. The ceremony this year featured the theme “Year of the Black Woman.” The audience was also thrilled when Queen Latifah, who won the BET Lifetime Achievement Award, appeared on stage. Before stepping on stage to give a speech, Monie Love, Rapsody, MC Lyte and Lil ’Kim performed a tribute to Latifah, including her hit“ U.N.I.T.Y, ”when she became very emotional.
Also, another very emotional moment was when they performed a tribute to the rapper who died from a heart attack earlier this year, DMX. Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Swizz Beatz, and Michael K. Williams showed a special tribute. This really was a very emotional evening!
